Huawei Consumer Business Group(CBG) has set up a new secondary department, Consumer BG Global Ecosystem Development Department, for the development of Huawei Mobile Services(HMS) ecosystem. The self-developed HMS is Huawei ’s response to Google ’s ban on providing mobile services to the company.
Recently, the Chinese giant announced that it will a launch event on February 24, when it’s expected to unveil Honor V30 series for the European market. The phone will be the first smartphone pre-installed with HMS ecosystem. Whether European consumers accept HMS or not will dictate the future of Harmony OS in the international market.
The lack of GMS services has significantly dampened Huawei’s mobile phones overseas. Because most European consumers have long been used to Google services on Android, and the core applications of Android rely on GMS services, including YouTube , Play Store, Google Maps and Gmail. Many data synchronization and backup functions based on Google account are also unavailable.
Facing the dilemma, Huawei has decided to launch its own mobile service ecosystem. In December 2019, Huawei Mobile Services was launched for public testing in China.
