In order to adopt the system of the United States，Huawei is increasing the use of mobile APs (applications processors) from third party suppliers for its smartphones. The move will have the Chinese tech giant reduce the use of its Kirin chips made from its subsidiary HiSilicon Technologies, which marks a notable shift as Huawei has typically relied on its own subsdiary.
The primary reason for the multiple sourcing of mobile APs is to maintain the competitiveness of its products. Furthermore, stable supply and profit also comes into play, with the Chinese smartphone maker expected to bring an additional 1-2 vendors to its supplier list for smartphone APs. Despite the company already having Taiwan’s MediaTek as a third-party 5G AP supplier, Huawei might also buy 5G APs from US based Qualcomm.
